At Kindy Science, we bring the wonders of STEM to life with weekly 30-minute lessons over a 10-week term, designed to spark curiosity and foster a love for science in children aged 4 to 6. Our programs are meticulously crafted to ensure that children never repeat the same unit twice within two years, providing fresh and engaging content each time.
Our eight diverse units include unique activities presented in different learning contexts, making the experience both exciting and educational. Currently, we are on Rotation B for 2025 and will switch to Rotation A thereafter.
These units have been developed by our award-winning teacher, Miss Camille, who boasts over 25 years of experience in STEM, Gifted and Talented (G&T) education, and Special Education and has taught children from Kindergarten to year 12. Since its inception in 2018, Kindy Science has enriched the lives of children in over 30 centres across the region, and delivered BCC libraries, delivering either the weekly incursions or the individual workshop programs.
This unit deepens the children’s understanding of Energy and Electricity through weekly hands-on activities. Each session offers new, interactive experiences, allowing the children to engage fully with the concepts. Activities include exploring electrical generators, creating fruit batteries, and experimenting with basic circuitry.
Over the course of 10 weeks, the children will work to solve a mystery introduced in the first lesson by uncovering a new forensic technique each week. They will engage in various forensic activities and build an evidence board to piece together clues and ultimately solve the crime.
Plant Sciences gives the children the opportunity to observe the lifecycle of plant. They look at different types of plants to see how they grow (seed, bulbs, cuttings) and use microscopes and magnifiers to look more closely at cells. Insects are also covered in the unit as they are an important part of the plant lifecycle.
Over 10 captivating weeks, children embark on a journey to uncover the intricate workings of the eye and its connection to the brain. They’ll delve into the fascinating physics of light, reflection, and refraction, all while solidifying their understanding through engaging, hands-on experiences with laser kits, prisms, and mirrors.
In this exciting unit, the children embark on a journey to explore the tiniest building blocks of our world—the atom. They’ll get hands-on with model kits, creating molecules of common substances, and engage in thrilling experiments and demonstrations that bring the three states of matter to life.
This is an introductory unit that begins to train the children to think from a problem-solving and seeing perspective. Over 10 weeks the children will participate in various STEM activities to encourage developing a different STEM skill. They will hypothesise, infer, observe and create.
Over 10 weeks the children will learn the basics of the human body – skeleton, blood and circulatory system, respiratory system, digestive system, skin and staying healthy. The children will also use different anatomical models and microscopes.
This unit aims to demonstrate to the children that Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths are everywhere and that you can be creative and artistic using
Science and Maths principals. We make art using the sun, nature, Fibonacci ratios, geometry, pendulums and density.
